A few years ago, a group of friends started an annual golf trip. On the first trip, one of the guys borrowed a new golf club from one of the other guys. We were playing in a light rain. The club slipped out of his hand and flew into a gorse bush (gorse is a spiny shrub that grows on seaside golf courses, sometimes with small yellow flowers). We had six guys looking for the club inside the bush, but none of us could find it. We made fun of the guy that lost the club by saying the gorse had swallowed the club. This is where we got the term “swallowing gorse” and named later trips “Swallowing Gorse Invitational.”
The name is based on an inside joke. It would be fine to refer to the inside joke, but I don’t think I am looking for something that is overly humorous. I would prefer the logo be unique and classic.
There is a trophy that the winner gets to keep for a year that is in the shape of the Claret Jug given to the winner of the British Open golf tournament. This could be incorporated into the design but not necessary or specifically desired. Again, I am looking for something unique.
Using the text “Swallowing Gorse Invitational” in the logo is preferred, but a great design would not necessarily need to include the text.
I am looking for a logo that can be used on a website, golf shirt, t-shirt, hat, and golf ball. So, the number of colors should not be excessive.
I have included some logos in a Word file attached to this brief. The logos in the Word file have the look, feel, and temperature I believe I am looking for.
The website for the trip is www.swallowinggorse.com.
I am open to questions and clarifications via email.
