Logo Design Brief

We need a clean, strong logo that is distinctly Christian, but not generic. Our denomination is strongly based on Scottish and Dutch reformed theology, so we are a church looking to serve Salem, OR while implementing pithy doctrine. Our name is fitting considering our location in the Pacific Northwest, but we don't necessarily have to have a tree as part of the logo. The final design should communicate a combination of solid doctrine and modern lines. We want to carry God's redemptive work forward into 21st century Oregon.
Note: If you can incorporate old Christian symbols, that would be a plus. Crosses are fine if you can make them look good, but most of the time they look very generic.
