Logo Design Brief

We are a wedding photography & cinematography company located in Toronto, ON, Canada. We are looking for a logo which captures the essence of out creative style and vision. We describe our style to clients as being "the perfect blend of contemporary & classic wedding photography". We strive for clean, classic images that effectively tell the "wedding story" for each of our clients. We have a reputation for attention to fine details and are very meticulous in the execution of our photography as well as in the post production process to insure we deliver a polished and very high quality product to our clients. For this reason the logo should be detailed and rich. We would like our logo to exude a regal look with a European flair. I think of designers such as "Versace", Dolce & Gabbana" or "Gucci" when I think of the look or feeling I would like our logo to convey to the viewer.
We would also like the logo to communicate that we have been in business for some time and are well established. We believe in the philosophy that "less is more" in particular when it comes to good design. We are not looking for anything too garish or over the top insofar as design is concerned. We do not want the logo to be too busy or to be complicated. We are looking for clean, simple and "elegant" design. We are open to the idea of the text within the logo having an additional design element or "illustration".

One concept, but not the only concept, we are interested in exploring is a heart or two hearts with wings attached to them We have attached a JPEG image from a designer called "Burn Couture" to this brief as a very strong reference point. Some designs have been submitted based upon this example but they were not as strong as the sample provided. Without copying the design I would say the closer the design to the sample provided the more we would like it.This concept has proven a difficult one in that the designs we have seen are either too hard or edgy or too cute & playful. Some have looked like motorcycle emblems or 80's rock band logos. neither are conducive to what we are attempting to say. Somehow the design encompassing the heart and wings needs to have the look of a high-end fashion designers logo. It cannot look too "cartoon like" or juvenile. In the sample logo attached to this brief the logo has a real flow and movement to it. Somehow the design needs to say "Wedding Photography & Cinematography". It should have a romantic connotation.

We do not want designers to be limited to submitting only designs with hearts and wings and are wide open to other designs and submissions that the designer feels captures the classy or rich look we are attempting to capture within the logo.

A second concept we would like to explore is a design that uses objects to convey the fact we are a wedding photography & cinematography company. Perhaps a film strip and another object or objects that could tell this story creatively? Perhaps our initials within a film strip that bends and curves to create an object or shape that says what we do?

We would like to see logos that incorporate the use of our initials "C" & "P" within them. These initials could be enclosed within a "crest", a "frame" or "heart" shape or they could be creatively surrounded by a creative frame. Our initials surrounded or encompassed in an object or shape appeals to us very much.

As far as fonts are concerned we like a font called "Trajan Pro" and similar fonts but are open to other suggestions. This is important in that we feel the look of this font communicates the direction we are going in or the look we are going for. This font is classy and clean and rich looking. It looks like the kind of font a fashion designer might choose for their logo.

We will likely place the logo or illustration with "Cipriano Palmer" centred underneath it in the final design. We will add "Photography & Cinematography" underneath the "logo" later so as not to make it all too busy and complicated.

As far as colour palettes we have seen designs incorporating a black background using mochas, creams and browns that looked really rich. Once again, we are not wanting to limit the colours to these tones or colours but offer them as a reference point only to provide an idea of what direction we are going in. Some designs we have seen have had really bright or garish colours and for our wedding photography business I am not sure this is where we want to go.I am pretty certain we will go with a design that will be placed upon on a black or deep grey background as opposed to a white or light coloured background. We are open to other colour suggestions inspired by this input.

Our website address is www.ciprianopalmer.com. We would like a potential designer to visit our website to get a sense of our work and style prior to designing a logo or making submissions.

The logo should mix "traditional" & "modern" elements or "feels" which is what we are endeavoring to offer our clients with our photography & cinematography.

The logo could also incorporate an illustration or design that says we offer photography & cinematography services.

We want to communicate that our photography and cinematography are very high quality products and appeal to those clients who appreciate our attention to fine details.

We would like the logo to be detailed and rich.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: We chose to pay for the design via Paypal. Afterwards we discovered it takes 6 -8 days for the payment to be received. Our design deadline date was going to expire before the payment would show as guaranteed. We were concerned this issue might prevent more designers from submitting.

Hello,

We have come across a concept we are very, very interested in seeing logos designed around.

There is a fashion design company called "Burn Couture". Their logo can be found on the web for

review.

We recognize that we cannot copy another logo and are only suggesting designers look at from concept

point of view.

This logo depicts a heart with two wings on fire attached to it.

We are wedding photographers.

The idea of a heart with wings says what we do very succinctly.

It is love taking flight.

We would like this symbol to be placed directly between the words "Cipriano" & "Palmer". All on one

line.

We can then say "Photography + Cinematography" below this logo on our promotional materials.

If there is a way of incorporating the initials "CP" within the heart that would be great but may not be

necessary if it makes it all too complicated.

As far as a direction for a font to use we really like a font called "Trajan Pro" but are open to new ideas

if you feel another font works better with the design we are suggesting.

We are hoping that the graphic with the heart and wings will be so strong that we can use it alone,

without text, down the road once the company becomes more established.

A variation with the heart and wings on fire would be incredible if it works.

I am now thinking that this logo may look a lot like a "tattoo" design potentially which could also be

really cool.

Looking forward to seeing your designs.

Hi,

Thank you to everyone who submitted a design or designs. Truly, there were so many promising one's and we are very grateful for everyone who took the time to submit. We are in the eleventh hour now and have some critical print deadline's to meet so it is vital we select a design in the next day or two. Some of you accepted our design invitation but have yet to submit. Please, if you were planning to submit a design do so within the next 36 hours to be sure it is there for consideration.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Hi, We have received some very good designs and may well go with one we have already received. Thank you to everyone for submitting. We created a voting poll and the results made us feel we need to explore more options. We will keep this "identity' for a very long time and do not intend to change our logo once we chose it. We are not sure we have found the design that really speaks to us 100% at this point. We are going to update the brief and are thinking of adding some additional incentives to attract more designers to submit.

We extended the deadline to August 24, 2011. We will be choosing a design prior to this date for sure after careful consideration. We have materials to produce for an upcoming trade show that will have to be designed prior to August 24, 2011 for which we will require the logo. For this reason anyone who wishes to submit a design should do so sooner than later to be certain their design is available for consideration.

We look forward to receiving your designs. Thank you.

In the "must haves" section it mentions we "must have" the "hearts with wings" concept.

I tried to omit this so as not to limit designers perceptions but have not been able to effectively do so.
Please read the brief in full and there you will find direction as far as the multiple concepts we are interested in exploring.

Hi, We would like to explore one more design concept prior to choosing the final design.

We would like to use the symbol of a "crown" to enclose our initials within.
The crown should be very rich, detailed and regal looking. Ideally in warm colours against a black background.
The initials should be in the centre of the crown and it would be great if the overlapped each other.
For instance, the "C" of Cipriano could wrap around or enclose the top of the "P" for Palmer.
In writing this I just thought of a great idea for the initials.
The initials could be within the crown but look like a royal "Wax" seal that was used long ago where the queens initials were stamped into a "dollop" of wax. Just an idea on how the initials "C" & "P" could be portrayed.

Hi. In the last brief update we talked about wanting to see designs incorporating a rich and regal "crown" design with our initials enclosed. This led us to the idea of a "royal wax stamp" idea for the initials within the crown. We are now wondering whether the "wax stamp" concept on it's own could provide a rich and classy logo design? I have attached some sample "crowns' & "wax stamp" examples to our brief. We would lime to see some "wax stamp" logos with "Cipriano Palmer" underneath them. Perhaps out initials could be in the centre of the wax stamp with "Cipriano Palmer Photography & Cinematography wrapping around the circumference of the wax stamp? We also think the wax stamp and the crown symbol could be incorporated together to form some interesting designs. We are looking for rich detailed designs that are classy looking. Another concept is a royal ring that has the "Wax Stamp" initials on it's surface with Cipriano Palmer Photography & Cinematography around the circumference of the ring.
