Hi Steve,

"I don't want to be pigeon holed as a guy with a tool belt and a hammer. I want to look like a professional company."

If you want to look professional, I suggest getting a proper email address (finalfixcarpentry.com is available). No matter how amazing looking your business card is, finalfixcarpentry@hotmail.com will definitely pigeon hole you as the guy you don't want to be ;)

Hi craigd

I hadn't thought of that. How do you go about doing it? What's the cost?

by Project Owner on Thursday, July 11, 2013

No logo. This is a new business

Hi Steve,

Register your domain name (I use http://www.123-reg.co.uk but since you're from Australia, you may be better off finding a more local registration company, but I don't think that matters to be honest). This will cost £10.99 for 1 year. Maybe someone here will offer a better suggestion (godaddy.com perhaps?).

You'll then need to buy some hosting (usually around £3+/month but then you need to design your own site and upload it). I'd personally recommend using Weebly.com as it's free and very simple to use (you won't need the features in the pro version which would cost around £25 for 6 months). You can get a nice simple site up with no knowledge of web design using Weebly and one of their templates. Having an actual site means that people can visit to find out more about what you do etc.

Wherever you buy your domain name from should have plenty of help pages detailing how to setup your email forwarding.

So just £10.99 per year would be your minimal costs.

Hope that helps somewhat :)
