Logo Design Brief
I am retiring to my family farm in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. A portion of the farm has been carved off for my new farm. I chose the name, Dog and Pony Show Farm. I have always had dogs, currently 2 dachshunds and 2 hounds. My family shows draft ponies. The name seemed to fit my retired life.
About the farm and Central Ohio. The farm is on rolling farmland. The family are retired dairy farmers and now run a draft pony farm. They basically bale hay and straw for the ponies. The neighboring farmland is similar farming soy beans, corn and bale straw and hay for their livestock. A stream cuts through this farm. The farm sit adjacent to our 1830s farm house, barn and silo. It is a typical rural area dotted with farms.
About draft ponies… Please be aware that draft ponies are a different breed of horses. They are not the thin small ponies most people know. These ponies are working horses that you see on Amish farms. They are generally black with an occasional white accent. The family shows draft ponies at fairs (the origin of my farm name), They are generally pulling a cart or farm wagon. Here are some pics: https://flic.kr/s/aHskgj22mW
About the dogs… My dachshunds are one brown and one black. The hounds are one fox hound and one PBGV. I generally have herding dogs or hounds.
My thoughts on the logo appearance. I would like to keep it simple. I like the idea of a barn, silo, old-fashioned windmill or other farm accent against a rural farm setting. The barn style is a bank style barn.
How the dogs and ponies fit in, I will rely on the designers. Dogs in a wagon may work. The attached logo of a dog on a pony back is funny and in the vein of that I see as a fun element. The American Gothic picture with dog and pony head also seem funny.
I don’t want designer to constrain themselves to this guide. Feel free to use your creativity to design the logo. It should be fun and casual. Simple is probably better than complex and busy.
Good luck! I look forward seeing your design.
