Logo Design Brief
We're developers of a small brewery ('The Brewers') in South East Queensland/Brisbane, Australia ('The Project') inviting suggestions for the creation of an image (logo and beer label) demonstrating (in no particular preferential order):
- modern artisan handcraft in keeping with traditional (e.g. eclectic) principles
- exclusive offering without being discriminatory
- uncompromising in providing a top quality product
- being slightly bold by offering 'No weak beer here'
- being uncluttered and sometimes cheeky
- (o)regionality
- socially and philosophically balanced
- supporting sustainable improvements of society.
Updates
Hi there.
We've received a number of logo designs which don't feature a depiction or synonym of a monk embedded with the image. If you review the brief you'll notice this being a principle requirement and we wish not to deviate from it. Thanks

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: We received a number of designs which don't follow the brief. To allow for necessary in-depth review and adjustment we extend the deadline to Friday 12/10/2013. Thanks.

Hi there,
thank you for your continued interest in the Project. We received an enquiry from one of the participants which may be helpful to all designers responding to the Project brief:
1. When you say Monk, are you thinking more "friar" or "shaolin"?
Wiki offers some guidance: Monk means any "person who practices religious asceticism, living either alone or with any number of other monks. A monk may be a person who decided to dedicate his life to serving all other living beings, or to be an ascetic who voluntarily chooses to leave mainstream society and live his life in prayer and contemplation. The concept is ancient and can be seen in many religions and in philosophy."
We're dedicated brew monks, serving all other living beings - beer!
2. Are you open to having the monk character in more of a playful pose (such as holding the beverage or something similar) or more of a serious pose?
Open to any suggestion, providing the design is professional, uncluttered, distinct and meeting the design brief. This can be a humorous or serious attempt but please not being boring!
3. You require some sort of badge, correct? (something like: http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/202205 ?)
The logo will be used as badge on a (brown) beer bottle. Pending on the design, this can be stand-alone or the beer type (e.g. "Australian Pale Ale") incorporated in the design as we anticipate to release 6 standard and many special editions. Please refer also to question 4.
4. Do you want to reference Australia somehow?
We aspire to have a strong regional presence (South East Queensland, Brisbane - Australia) and the design may take this into account without being blunt. However, legal regulations require the origin and details of the product to be provided, which we anticipate the back and neck/top label to do provide whilst complementary to also feature 'our story'. This leaves the designer the flexibility to create a clear, recognizable logo without loading the front label up with too much information.
Thanks.
