Baymen Boards is a consumer products / lifestyle brand. We manufacture stand up paddle boards made from the hardwoods of Belize, additionally we offer apparel and gear to our customers. Our products are 100% sustainable, biodegradable, and environmentally safe.
Our name is inspired from the early settlers of Belize, Central America. The first Baymen settled in the Belize City area in the 1650s. They were buccaneers and pirates trying to outrun the Spanish rulers in Mexico and Central America. They found that they could make a living cutting and selling logwood to their home country. Many of the first Baymen settled on what is now the Northside of Belize City.
Belize hosted one of the great Mesoamerican civilizations of ancient times, the Maya. The Maya created vibrant commercial centers, monumental religious temples and exquisite art works. They possessed sophisticated knowledge about their earthly and cosmological environments, much of which they wrote down. The Maya thrived from roughly 2000 BC to AD 1500.
Finally, commonly referred to as "Garifuna", the people are properly called "Garinagu". The Garifuna are mixed-race descendants of West African, Central African, Island Carib, European, and Arawak and their principal occupation was fishing and farming. The Garinagu are recent arrivals to Belize, settling the southern coast of Belize. In 1832 a group of Garifuna arrived on the southern Belizean coastline.Today, the Garifuna are very well-known in Belize for their contributions to music and dance.
We think that the design should pay tribute to Baymen, Mayan, and Garinagu cultures. We feel the coat of arms and flag of Belize could provide the colour palette, the coat of arms imagery could also serve in the logo design in some capacity (not mandatory). Please consider including a stand up paddle board (optional paddles) in the design. The design must be suitable for use on t-shirts, ball caps, signage, and websites. This image should provide instant recognition of our global brand while showing our Belizean roots.
