Another couple of dozen designs were submitted, most were easy to eliminate as they did not follow the directions given at all. There were a few that did and I may have made the mistake of identifying them, as now I may get several derivative designs. However it is good to have an example.

Also, this may not have been clear from the design brief, but your explanation should not stand in for your logo, it should support it. It should show me that you undertook a design process to capture my company's values in a design, instead of just seeing the company name and trying to put five of something in a stylized way. I want to look at your logo first and think "ah, s/he understands what the company is about", then I want to read the explanation, and have it confirmed.

I want to know from the explanation that we understand each other and are on the same page, but I do not want the explanation to be necessary for the logo. When people see the logo they will not be reading the explanation, it should not be an interpretation like you would make of a piece of abstract art in a museum. The written explanation is for me to understand you as a designer, but the logo itself should still be able to stand on its own.
