eBook Cover Design Brief

This is part of a five series novel collection, set in England, which harkens back to the time of Allen Lane and Penguin and the first paperback classics. Did he know they were classics in the making? Who knows. But his orange penguin paperback book covers became iconic and still are.

In the series, five women with different lives, but each with children, start to investigate books. Five Allen Lane titles for Penguin become their glue and their series, each from the 1940s-1950s. They are about reparations, sex, the time of renewal and love after a war. They are being re-read as we face Brexit and the Corona-virus to see what life is about.

The covers must reference Allen Lane and Penguin in some obvious way. The obvious orange, the font of penguin, the classic first edition format. But they may not look like a copyright violation of Penguin.

The books in the series all reference Plato and they are
Soul Bliss,
Soul Love,
Soul Mate,
and so on.

In each book the mom get what she needs after a hard day for under ten bucks. A jar of pink supermarket flowers, a bar of great dark chocolate, and so on. In Soul Bliss, she receives bubble bath, and the book in their book club is Howard's End by E. M. Forster. The lead finds it in the original edition.

It's an homage to books!
