The main idea for Let God Send is that God is a sending God and being "on the move" or journeying is central to God's character, and therefore God's people. I write about our hesitancy to "go," and how the Bible is full of stories about people "going" from Abraham to Jesus, to the disciples of Jesus.
The core biblical text is the Great Commission in Matthew 28:16-20, where Jesus sends out his followers, though some of them doubt.
This paragraph from the forward by J. Dana Trent captures the tone of the book well:
This book is a call amid the turmoil. Sacred scripture contains no shortage of narratives in which humans are pulled from their ordinary lives with an inciting incident whose stakes are high. These Biblical figures are lulled from complacency and comfort zones—and yet they are reluctant to serve because they question their ability and influence. Their lessons are relevant for us today: They, and we, are always called and sent with authority. The power of the Holy Spirit equips their “going”—and ours. It’s a sending out that looks less like mastery and more humility. It’s a sending out that is unequivocal service to others modelled in a rabbi-reformer who washed feet and touched the unclean.
I have previously published two shorter books and would be very interested in getting new covers for the old books these so that the three have a similar feel. Whichever designer I go with for "Let God Send" I would also want to work with on creating a "branded look" for the other two books.
