Logo Design Brief

Simple but stand out. Possibly a onyx gem as a start?

It's for my company that will produce custom machined parts. Products will vary because it covers a wide range but will all have engineering in common. Target audience will be for people who like innovative ideas and products. The design I'm after is something with a onyx gem and a modern font for the "onyx innovation". Maybe an engineering type theme to it.
No existing website for the logo as it is in development.
