Logo Design Brief

The logo is for a 'primarily' MMA based website, although multiple sports are covered. Specific interest in British MMA. The name of the brand is 'Out On Your Shield'...

To make life as easy & efficient as possible for all designers, it is totally fine to submit an initial design that is basic but structurally sound. Once a simple and quick design ticks the boxes, depth of colours and look can be confidently added knowing it is worth putting in the small details. Once a more detailed version is submitted by a designer, I will remove previous designs from the selections to ensure the correct focus is applied to those designs closest to completion.

There are multiple static logos and at least 2 animated/ motion logo's to work on for the winner of this competition over the next couple of months. I am looking to find a designer to work with me on all aspects of this new venture, so there is considerably more than this 1 design potentially available for the winning designer. This is just my first venture into looking for a designer so very excited to find the right candidate!

1) Shield - I have provide an example of what type of style I am thinking below for reference. For the shield, I am definitely looking for a very similar, if not exact, shape to the 'Celtic shield' I attached for reference. The idea is that it should look like something you could run into a Roman legion with and just start slicing, if you lost your swords :) I would remove all the swirly stuff from the artwork on my example and replace it with the symbols suggested below. I would like the border of the shield to match the bronze / brass colour of the 'Celtic shield image' attached. I would like the rest of the shield to have a steel colour to it. I have attaching a 2nd shield image 'shiny steel' to reference the type of realistic metallic colour needed for the rest.

2) National symbols - Based on the shield shape outlined above, the shield naturally splits into 4 sections, which all join into a central circle in the middle. On each of the 4 sections of the shield, I would like 1 of the national symbols placed. Thistle, Rose, Daffodil & Shamrock. As most of the design will be metallic this is the only major colour point in the design, I would like the full colour of the national symbols, as they are seen on flags etc, to stand out as important areas of focus on the shield. I will attach a specific image showing the national symbols I am referring to below ( the only one I really don't like in the example is the daffodil which looks strange ). A slightly nicer flower, that was in some way symmetrical with the rose would be great. It was the closest i could find using a collective picture including all 4. Then it is a thistle on top, shamrock below, and the daffodil and rose should adorn the sides.

3) Central ring - In this central ring, I would like the image of a Celtic Lion. I have attached a specific image below for guidance. In order to make the lion stand out, I would like it to be darker / blacker than the steel it sits on. I am hoping the lion will look like an engraving (scratched in) rather than something protruding from the surface.

4) Ribbon band - I would also like the name of the company in a 'ribbon band' below the shield (similar to old school badges with Latin writing). I will also provide an example below for reference 'ideal ribbon band'. It is the bottom ribbon of the 3 in the picture. I would like the ribbon to match the steel colour of the shield. The curls in the ribbon should sit underneath the 2 gaps in the shield at the bottom, As thew sword tips will drop in behind them. Also, darker / blacker writing for the company name that helps it link with the darker colour of the central lion would be awesome.

5) Swords - The final component to the design is crossing swords behind the shield. I would like the handles of the sword to look ornate. I have provided an image of perfect swords I think look great below 'sword handle 2'. I want to use the exact image of the swords provided. The detail is amazing on the handles. As it is the first piece of the design puzzle, with everything else sitting on top I hope they can just be used as they are, for the 1st layer. IF they cant, I hope to replicate the look as accurately as possible. The handles of the swords should sit just above the top gaps of the shield and the blades should emerge symmetrically out the bottom gaps of the shield. The tips should go behind the curls in the ribbon and poke down below the bottom of the ribbon so we can see them again.

Hope this very specific brief helps guide designers confidently and ensure there is plenty of time to complete the design . Each image attached is exactly the look I have in mind. Putting those looks together in a design that is proportional and visually crisp/realistic will show exactly the skills we wish to hire regularly!!! I look forward to seeing what you all come up with!!!

Updates

I have decided to extend the deadline by 5 days. As the duration of this project has fallen during the week of Christmas, as well as all the difficulties being experienced globally with the pandemic, I appreciate now is not an ideal time to be completing logos. I also would not want anyone to feel pressured to work during a time when we should all be with our family. Therefore, I would like to give this project every chance of success by ensuring a promising designer has until the end of the year to achieve the finished product. Merry Christmas to all. I look forward to seeing what comes through in a day or 2. Kind regards,

Requirements
Must have
  • Sharp, dangerous, circular(ish) shield, National symbols in natural colour. Celtic Lion centre piece. Crossed swords like the silver ones attached for reference The company name in a ribbon band below. It must look like a real shield and swords!!!

The images attached for reference and the detailed brief do provide, almost exactly, the look and feel of the desired completed logo.
Nice to have
  • Nice to have the best representation of those national floral emblems and vibrant colours. I specified 'Decorative' and sans 'serif' as my preferred style of writing. I do want it to have an artistic flair however It cant compromise the ability to read it without already knowing what it says. Assume the font is a very minor detail so excited to see what comes back! I am sure I don't yet know many good fonts that will look great until i see them.
Should not have
  • Nothing else outside the boundaries of the shield, swords and ribbon band. Also cannot have undefined edges.
