Logo Design Brief

UPDATED: I am creating a non profit for my husband who passed away while on duty. He was a K-9 officer and was very loved by his community. This non profit will help raise funds for Police Departments/K9s and School needs in Indiana.
I want a design that is not too complicated.
I did a rough sketch of what was in my mind, hoping someone could build off of that OR give me your take on it.(i am not an artist, obviously) I AM NOT COMMITTED TO THE SHIELD DESIGN. OPEN TO OTHER OPTIONS.

I have added some logo examples where the logo matches the mission (for the most part).
