Logo Design Brief

We need a logo for our research lab! We will be using the logo on printed and web materials.
We are a team of researchers at the University of Miami who work in cancer prevention and survivorship with an emphasis on diet, exercise, and lifestyle.
We lab is called the CRANE Lab, and it is led by Dr. Tracy Crane. CRANE is also an acronym: "Cancer Research - Advancing with Nutrition and Exercise".
We want to be seen as trustworthy, dedicated to our community, scientific but approachable, representing minorities and marginalized communities, with a Miami flare.
We will be working with all cancers, so we have designed a stained-glass ribbon that incorporates lots of colors for different cancer awareness months. I'll upload this ribbon, but you don't have to use it in the logo. It's just for reference.
The lab colors are Miami Vice bright colors, I'll also upload a color scheme, not all have to be present in the logo, but the logo should at least mesh well with these colors so it looks good on our website.
The University of Miami's mascot is an ibis, so we are reluctant to use the crane bird in our logo, to avoid confusion.
