Logo Design Brief

I purchased a 1989 Mainship 41 yacht. It is a basically a floating 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo that looks straight out of the 1980s! I have decided to name the boat "New Wave" for a couple of reasons. 1) New wave music was my preferred music during the 1980s and 1990s and definitely the interior style of the boat. 2) Boating is a "new" activity for me and 3) wave should speak for itself.

I would like a retro looking logo for the boat that looks great in black and white and also 2/3 color. Something that could easily be placed on the back of the boat and used on towels, cups, tshirts, etc. Originally I thought it might be nice to adapt a great new wave band's logo, but I am definitely open to ideas.

The way the boat is designed, the logo should probably have a vertical orientation.
