Logo Design Brief
Challenge: Design a logo for our new charity, Lead Research for Action (LeRA), which conducts research on lead poisoning in low- and middle-income countries.
Objective: Design a logo to appear on our website, fundraising/marketing materials, and in correspondence with political and health ministry actors, other non-profits in the global health and development space, and researchers / academic organizations.
About the charity: Lead poisoning is a global health crisis, affecting 1 in 3 children worldwide. The effects of lead poisoning are wide-ranging and serious – from increased risk of cardiovascular disease mortality and elevated risks of kidney disease, to reductions in IQ, educational outcomes, and lifetime earnings.
We know that lead exposure is pervasive, but we don’t yet fully understand where it’s coming from. Major sources of lead exposure likely vary by region, from spices to cookware to traditional medicines, and more. Without understanding the main sources of lead exposure, we are limited in our ability to address them, for example through regulation or reformulation of lead-contaminated products. The issue is particularly pronounced in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), which bear the majority of the lead poisoning burden, yet have had the least lead research conducted in them.
Our charity, Lead Research for Action (LeRA), aims to reduce childhood lead poisoning by addressing knowledge gaps around lead exposure, particularly in LMICs. We plan to conduct research studies that identify the main causes of lead exposure in particular countries, and work with governments and other non-profit organizations to eliminate these causes. For example, if our research found that lead-contaminated spices were a major driver of lead exposure in a given country, we would work with the government and other NGOs to regulate and remove lead from spices in that country. In later years, we may expand into other types of lead research, for example developing low-cost methods of testing blood lead levels.
Geographic focus: This is a global organization, working in low- and middle-income (developing) countries
Preferred format: SVG. Or high-resolution PNG (>2000px in each dimension). Please provide two versions – one rectangular, and one square.
Style preferences: Simple, minimalist, clean. It should be professional, but not overly corporate. Simple color palette, e.g. 1-3 colors. Should work on white and dark backgrounds.
Charity name inclusion: We are happy for the charity name to be included as the core of the logo itself, or otherwise positioned alongside in complementary color and font (see examples).
Colors: We currently like the colors #20493c and #6ac6ac, and teal-green shades in general, but are open to other suggestions, including the addition of accent colors. Attached is one example color palette.
Attached are some examples of logos we like and dislike. In general, we like simple, clean logos that are either entirely text-/letter-based or also include some simple symbol that captures the name or mission of the organization alongside it.
