Logo Design Brief
It’s time for a fresh look! The Washington State Pharmacy Association (WSPA) has used our current logo for more than 16 years, and we are ready for a modern identity that better reflects who we are, the pharmacy profession, and the state we serve.
What We’re Looking For: We are seeking a new logo and visual identity for the Washington State Pharmacy Association that is modern, professional, distinctive, and unmistakably connected to both
Washington State and the pharmacy profession.
The winning concept will ultimately need to work across a variety of formats and applications. We anticipate working with the selected designer to develop variations such as:
• A primary logo
• A stacked or square version for social media and digital use
• A horizontal version for letterhead, websites, banners, and signage
• Versions suitable for print, apparel, promotional items, and other branded materials
• Full-color and simplified/one-color applications
The logo should remain recognizable and legible at both large and small sizes.
Look & Feel: Our current logo uses two shades of blue. For the new identity, we are especially interested in exploring greens and colors inspired by the Pacific Northwest and Washington State. We are open to creative color palettes that feel fresh, professional, and representative of our region.
We are drawn to designs that are:
• Sleek, crisp, and contemporary
• Professional but approachable
• Clean rather than overly detailed
• Built around modern sans serif typography
• Distinctive and recognizable
Representing Pharmacy: It is important that the logo clearly communicates pharmacy. There are several organizations in Washington that use the acronym "WSPA," so our connection to the pharmacy profession should be immediately apparent.
Traditional symbols associated with pharmacy include the mortar and pestle and the Bowl of Hygeia, but designers should feel free to explore more contemporary or abstract ways of representing pharmacy, patient care, connection, or the role of pharmacy professionals.
Please avoid making pills, capsules, prescription bottles, or medication products the primary focus of the design. Pharmacy is much more than the medication itself—it is a profession centered on people, care, expertise, access, and improving health.
Representing Washington State: We would also like the identity to feel distinctly Washington.
Washington is geographically diverse, and we encourage designers to think beyond the stereotypical image of only evergreen trees and mountains. Our state includes:
• Mountains, forests, islands, and saltwater in Western Washington
• The Cascade Range
• Major rivers and the Columbia Basin
• High desert and rolling hills
• Agricultural and farmland regions throughout Central and Eastern Washington
The design does not need to incorporate all of these elements—or depict Washington literally—but it should feel representative of the whole state.
The Goal: Ultimately, we want a visual identity that feels:
Modern. Professional. Washington. Pharmacy.
We want someone to see the logo and understand that WSPA represents pharmacy professionals across Washington State.
Included below are examples of other state pharmacy association logos and visual styles we like, along with our current WSPA logo for reference. These examples are intended as inspiration rather than designs to replicate.
We’re excited to see how you envision the next chapter of WSPA.
