Magazine Design Brief
I need a design for a two-page spread to open a very long (and fascinating) story about a famous female architect who basically built our very charming village. I've enclosed copy, photo of her, and several images of key buildings.
My present concept (I'm very open to other ideas) is a female hand with a drafting pencil, working on a blue line, with our town's iconic buildings designed by Zelma Wilson, Ojai, California, gradually coming into view toward the bottom of the page.
The first paragraph of copy (above the byline) should go on the first left-hand page, then the 7,500 story should follow on the right-hand side. But again, just a suggestion.
Our quarterly magazine is universally regarded as having superior, long-form journalism (the New Yorker of California, as someo, but our design execution is weak. We need your help.
Target Market(s)
Ojai is an affluent, highly artistic community. And our magazine is expanding nationwide to appeal to both tourists and the rising creative class of people who would be drawn to a community like Ojai.

Copy …
We use Neutra for headlines and cutlines, Berkeley OldStyle for copy, subheads. But I like the idea of using Triforce - the old Legend of Zelda typeface for the main headline.
