Logo Design Brief
WE ARE EXTENDING THIS PROJECT AS WE HAVE NOT GOT A LOGO WE ARE 100% HAPPY WITH. This brief has been updated to help improve submissions.
Little Birdy is a bluetooth connected device that alerts users to phone notifications. It is primarily aimed at women. It is discrete, very simple and cool. NOT a nerd accessory. The name is a play on the saying "A little birdy told me". The device is in the later stages of development, but lacks any graphic design. First step is a logo!
We need a logo of a bird that stands alone, and also can be integrated with the text "Little Birdy".
FIRST STEP IS TO PLEASE SUBMIT JUST A BIRD ALONE. Once we see your bird we will let you know if we also would like you to design type to go with it.
PLEASE USE ONLY WHITE ON ORANGE as per the colors below. We would like consistency in the first place, then we will modify the colors on the final design.
Please make sure it doesn't look too much like any big-brand bird logos.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE LOGO LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE TWITTER LOGO. Any passing resemblance will imply that this is a tool primarily for Twitter notifications, which we don't want.
THE BIRD MUST BE SIMPLE, not a realistic bird traced with detail. It must work when the image is very small (it will be engraved on a small 5mm button).
Abstract is fine, as long as it is recognisable as a bird. Be courageous or cautious as suits your own style!
It is a good idea to submit an OUTLINE VERSION of any design as well as solid color, as those have been quite popular in our feedback.
If this goes well, we will be using Design Crowd to develop stationary, web page graphics, an iOS and Android app look-and-feel, packaging, etc. We have a lot of talent on this project but surprisingly lack a graphic designer with the right kind of eye.
Updates
Thank you all for your great designs so far! We will wait a few more days for a few more designs before making a short-list and sending some individual feedback. There is a lot of variety and potential - it will be hard to decide.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Hello designers! Thank you all for your great designs. We've been so impressed by both the calibre and effort that we've added 4 extra participation payments to be awarded at the end of the project. If our budget had allowed I would have added more, as many more of you deserve it. I've also extended the deadline by 5 days. This is to provide a little extra time in case anyone has some last minute flashes of genius, and also to allow time for a little more feedback at our end.
If I've eliminated all your designs but given you really high feedback scores, you now have time to try another design or variation if you like. Make it good - the standard is high! If so, please try to get them in before the weekend so we can include them in our poll.
Thanks again and regards,
Sebastian

Thank you all, again, for your designs.
The feedback from surveys has been quite mixed. While several designs have potential, we have no single design that we are entirely happy with so we are going to extend the competition again. I have added more contribution payments so that I can award more designers for their work.
NOTE FOR NEW SUBMISSIONS AND RESUBMISSIONS:
- Please submit the BIRD ONLY - no typeface. This is so that we can get feedback on the bird as it stands alone.
- Please use only WHITE ON ORANGE for this round of design
We'd like to get the bird established first. If we like your bird we will invite you to submit typefaces to go with it, and possibly a new colour.
I have updated the brief, so if you are interested in submitting new designs please read it again, carefully.
Unless you received low feedback for your design, I would encourage you to submit a new design. If your design has not been eliminated, please resubmit the design as per above.

Hi Designers,
One of our staff pointed out that we haven't seen any swallows, and that is strange because they are so hip right now. Google "swallow tattoos" to see what we mean (no direct copies please). This isn't a requirement, but at least one of our staff would vote up a cool swallow logo if someone can pull it off.

Please submit any final designs right away. We are closing our survey tomorrow and designs not in for long enough to get some ratings won't be considered. Thanks.

Thank you designers for all your work. As the project comes to close we have a few favourite designs but will reserve our decision until after the project closes.
If you have not received feedback yet for a design it means that we didn't like it as much as our favourite few - it's a tough competition. But if you haven't received feedback after a week from now, please message me. I intend to give ALL designs due feedback scores. You guys deserve it.
We've been blown away by the scope and quality of work. So expect to see us again here soon. If you submitted good work you can be guaranteed of an invitation next time around. Thanks!

Hello all designers,
We have decided on our favourite design! Pending revisions, it will be the contest winner. So if you have NOT received a separate message asking for revisions then please instead accept my thanks for your participation. Please don't withdraw your designs yet, because until the revisions are complete and contest closed, we can't confirm 100%.
We ended up with quite a few designs we thought were good, and it was just a matter of choosing our favourite. We were really overwhelmed by the number of submissions and the quality of many of them. Most of these logos would be suitable for SOME business or product, but it was difficult finding a design that suited our own business well, while not looking like a logo from another company. In fact there were dozens of really excellent logos that suited our product but just looked too similar to Twitter or another company with a similar name as our own. I suspect a lot of that was the result of people Googling "Little Bird" or "Little Birdy" and being strongly influenced by what they saw.
I will leave feedback scores for all remaining designs over the weekend.
Thanks again!!
