Logo Botho Community :
Botho Community is a non-profit organisation located in Geneva, Switzerland.
Botho is classical African concept coming from the Setswana dialect. Setswana is mainly spoken in South Africa and Botswana and is a batu language. Botho is a humanist philosophy focusing on relations and allegiances between people. The botho concept is explained as “motho ke motho ka batho” in Setswana and translates as “A person is a person trough other people”.
In Botswana Botho is defined as follows: “Botho defines a process for earning respect by first giving it, and to gain empowerment by empowering others. It encourages people to applaud rather than resent those who succeed. It disapproves of anti-social, disgraceful, inhuman and criminal behaviour, and encourages social justice for all.” (One of Botswana’s five national principles)
On this basis we wanted to share the aspect of creating tight bonds and building a global social entrepreneurship community. Our inspiration is well described with the following Chinese proverb:
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”
We want a logo which shows to people (Two different people!) standing on the globe giving each other the hand. Our idea is that in a thought bubble above the two people we would have the word “Botho”. Below the globe we would like to have the word “Community”. Within the globe our website www.botho-community.org should be stated. We would appreciate if Switzerland could be clearly visible in the globe. We attached a first draw of the logo for your help. Please bear in mind that we are very open for all new idea’s and that the first draw was only an idea. However we are more than keen to receive
