Logo Design Brief

I need a logo design for a creative writing organization located in Austin, Texas called "Girls With Pens." We offer writing workshops for girls aged 10-17. While pop culture and peer pressure are telling tweens and teenagers to be like everyone else, "Girls With Pens" celebrates individual voices and offbeat imaginations.
Our motto is "Don’t just dream of a whole new world. Write one."
The design should be appealing to both girls and parents and should convey the power and satisfaction that a girl obtains from writing.

Update: I have received several designs involving a fountain pen nib and although I think they are very clever I am not sure that a girl of 11 would know what the image is.
