This is a non-profit organization that throws a New Year's Eve party for a purpose. In Downtown Traverse City, Michigan - (Traverse City is known as the cherry capital of the world and Most of Michigan's sweet cherry production is also concentrated in the Traverse City area. Michigan produces 70 to 75 percent of the tart cherries grown in the United States) a lighted cherry is dropped in the intersection to commemorate the new year. People in attendance are asked to donate money and non-perishable food items for local food pantries at a time when the food pantries are in need.
