Logo Design Brief
My company has established a corporate meditation program teaching busy executives how to relax and optimize their performance by being calmer and more focussed. The techniques are simple to apply, provide immediate effects for most people and derive from ancient meditative practices but have been adapted for Western application.
The programs refer to the latest brain research from leading universities to demonstrate the effectiveness of the training and why it works at the neurological level.
It is envisaged that a number of courses will be developed over time so the corporate identity will support the later develpment of a family of icons/sub logos which tie into a unified whole.
The immediate requirement is for a logo design showing application on a business card.
If successful, the designer will be asked to extend the branding across a range of standard corporate materials ie business cards, a website, newsletter and formatted email template and an A4 information booklet and a number of standard forms, so thought should be given to secondary typography and adaptation of the theme to these media.
The company is called Serenityworks. The logo should incorporate the name utilizing clever and stylish typography (which embodies the feeling of 'calm effectiveness'), have a corporate feel but is not stereotyped. The use of a supporting image in the logo (such as a human head/brain showing expanded consciousness) is optional to provide visual redundancy where the designer feels the brief cannot be met by the typography alone. Simplicity and originality are key to creating something impressive and memorable.
Updates
We've received a few designs already, so thanks to all for getting onto the case so quickly. In view of the work that's been coming in, we've updated the design brief to give some more guidance and steer you away from ideas that aren't going to work for us. We've added a human head option to expore in the graphic but remember the final design may still be achieved using typography alone. But feel free to try integrating a human head showing expanded awareness and mental abilities into the design.

Requirements
Must have
- Has to look very contemporary, even slightly futuristic. Remember we are drawing on some of the latest brain research to validate our product claims.
We are targeting a premium market. Don't make it look cheap.
Not overworked - it must embody the purity of simplicity.
It must look calming - consider using light colours, blues, greens, violet with perhaps a little warmth but nothing heavy - avoid browns, reds, orange.
Nice to have
- You might try integrating a human head into the design in a design variation, depicting calmness and expansion of human potential and mental abilities.
Alternatively, you might be inspired by ancient meditative images which could be reinterpreted in a modern 21st century way.
Should not have
- The successful design will not be static, mechanical, too geometric or contain heavy images or text or be old fashioned looking.
